Maldegem

Home race for Emiel Verstrynge

Seven out of eight riders who defended the colors of their nation at the World Championships in Fayetteville one week ago swapped their jersey again for the one of Tormans Cyclo Cross Team on the occasion of the Ethias Cross in Maldegem.

Young riders Marie Schreiber and Zoe Bäckstedt were the first ones to compete on the dry and fast circuit in the elite category. The rider from Luxembourg and the newly crowned junior world champion started in each others slipstream in the first chasing group behind a leading trio. Schreiber then participated in an exciting battle for fourth place and eventually finished 7th. Bäckstedt crossed the line in twelfth place.

Swiss champion Kevin Kuhn, Frenchman Théo Thomas, Belgian riders Emiel Verstrynge and Joran Wyseure were confronted with the grass and wind in the elite men’s category. And it was U23 World Champion Joran Wyseure who performed best and finished 13th. Kuhn and Thomas finished in the top twenty, Verstrynge crossed the line just outside the top twenty in his home race.
