World Cup Iowa

Hermans (5th) impressed until a crash

This Sunday, the delegation of Tormans Cyclo Cross Team participated to the third and final World Cup race in the United States of Armerica, in Iowa City. Quinten Hermans, winner of the previous race in Fayetteville last Wednesday, lined up alongside Kevin Kuhn, Thomas Mein, Corné Van Kessel and Emiel Verstrynge at 21h (Belgian time), this time before the women’s race with Marie Schreiber (22h45).

An explosive parcours and very nice weather circumstances were offered to the riders. Hermans, Van Kessel and Kuhn realized a solid start, crossing the line after the first lap in the top 5. From the third lap, attacks succeeded each other and Quinten Hermans made a good impression again.

Hermans’ competitors never managed to distance him, until he bumped into the bars in the seventh lap. A dropped chain made him loose precious time and his chances to finish on the podium. But Hermans didn’t give up and finished 5th, 50 seconds after winner Iserbyt. The Belgian rider stays in 2nd position in the individual provisional World Cup classification after three races.

Marianne Vos was the strongest in the women’s race, with Marie Schreiber finishing 39th.
