Van Kessel missed the podium in Maldegem by some inches

Three days after the world championships in Switzerland, the cyclocross riders travelled to Maldegem for the penultimate Ethias Cross. Quinten Hermans was the fastest starter, followed by his teammate Corné Van Kessel. He staid at the front for the first three laps. Eli Iserbyt accelerated in the final and soloed to the win. Both riders of Tormans Cyclo Cross Team battled for the win until the finish line, but finally Corné Van Kessel wat defeated by Toon Aerts in an exciting sprint for the 3rd place. Quinten Hermans finished 7th.

Corné Van Kessel:

«  Quinten’s pace at the beginning of the race was perfect for me to follow in the group, until I had a deflating tyre. I lost some positions and energy because of the bike change, but I quickly appeared at the leading position again. It’s a pity to finish so close to the podium, but I return home with a good feeling.

Quinten Hermans:

«  I was leading the race at the start and felt really good. I continued with a lot of enthusiasm, which costed me the necessary energy in the final. After some disappointing    weeks, I was finally able to lead the race again. My superb feeling is worth more than the result today. »
