This Saturday, Corné Van Kessel took the first podium for Tormans Cyclo Cross Team in Gullegem. The Dutch rider finished 3rd in his second race with his new shirt. A group of four with Van Kessel, Wout Van Aert, Mathieu van der Poel and Michael Vanthourenhout stayed together for a long time, until world champion van der Poel got rid of his companions with three laps to go. Van Kessel unclipped in a duel for the remaining podium spots, and lost the sprint against Michael Vanthourenhout. Xandro Meurisse finished 20th.
Corné Van Kessel:
« I enjoyed the attention from the public and my good feeling. I tried to leave the work to van der Poel and Van Aert in order to save energy for the final. It's a pity that I unclipped and lost the battle for the 2nd place, but it's good to continue my series of decent results with a new podium.»
« I've chosen to add this race in Gullegem to my racing schedule to continue the adaptation to my new bike. We'll form a better unity after each race. I'll conclude the busy Christmas period with the cyclocross in Brussels. »
