Oostmalle: Hermans concludes in style by finishing 2nd

Spring is in the air, suggesting the end of the cyclocross season is in sight. Concluding in style was the goal for the six riders of Tormans Cyclo Cross Team in the Sluitingsprijs Oostmalle. Because of illness, Théo Thomas ended his season one week earlier as planned, before starting a well deserved rest period. The rest of the team was present to give their all for one last time on the air base in Oostmalle. It was very close to home that Shana Maes concluded the season with a 23rd place. The winner in the women's category was Denise Betsema.

After the start of the men's race, Quinten Hermans, Laurens Sweeck and David van der Poel escaped from a group with Corné Van Kessel. Van der Poel soon lost the connection in the front, but for Sweeck the pace wasn't high enough. End the end, it was every man for himself on this sand and wood course, making the gaps expand. Hermans continued the last weeks' success story by finishing on the podium again. After Essen, Eeklo and Brussel, the rider from Tessenderlo added a 2nd place to sum up to four podium finishes. Corné Van Kessel was 12th, Thomas Mein crossed the line in 15th position and Kevin Kuhn finished 19th. Emiel Verstrynge didn't feel strong in Oostmalle.

Quinten Hermans:
« I really suffered today. But it's great to end the season in this way! The season didn't go as expected, but these last weeks I confirmed that I'm still able to achieve more than what I've done during the months before. My confidence grew to start the road season. In March, I'm leaving for a training camp in Tenerife to prepare the Ardennes Classics, hopefully followed by the Giro d'Italia. Last year, I couldn't realize my ambitions on the road, because of the Covid break and my crash in the Dauphiné Libéré. I'm looking forward to finally get started with Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux and I'm convinced that this road season will help me a lot to start the next cyclocross season stronger! »
